The “Body Wash” concept is increasingly popular among men. Use it to shower, wash your hair and shave. Yes, one product – multiple uses. Many men know the benefits of shaving in the shower. It saves time and makes a guy totally clean and fresh. It’s a good thing – women like this!
In a 2008 study by Mintel, a market research firm, only 24% of men buy soap, with a new generation of men preferring the hipper option of body gels. GQ, Esquire and Men’s Health have all published articles on this new phenomenon calling it a gentleman’s way to” maximize cleaning up and looking good.” For male travelers, the wash fits into a travel case with a razor, add after shave and voila: Simplicity. Body wash crosses many sectors and generations. Teen age boys need to combat the emerging hormone challenge and the need to shave; hipsters know the power clean good looks have on girls; the sophisticated man, who already has confidence in himself, is looking to maximize time.
While woman love using specific shampoos for different colored hair and experimenting with body gel scents and mood fragrances, men like convenience and a multifunction formula. Make it simple that’s a man’s motto.
Men have embraced the concept of body wash. Liquid body soaps are the rage now having a 53% increase in sales from 2003, when they first appeared on the market, according to Mintel. The men’s body wash segment of the business is experiencing more growth than the women’s and unisex market. Most men see it as a product giving them an edge of time saving convenience. It is a travel must have. In homage to the totally masculine product, even the NFL and NASCAR have their own brands of body wash.
I am proud we introduced a “Men’s Body Wash” into the Purely Pro line two years ago and the feedback has been rewarding. We placed it in travel kits for male Product Specialists who traveled widely. We also had success with professional men who wanted a new product. The multifunction – shower/shave/hair wash has been the decisive factor in its success.
